Headset

Discover, collect and listen to music from YouTube

Headset is a simple music player for Mac, Windows and Linux with integrated YouTube search, a home screen with popularity list by genres and eras, and best of all, a radio powered by Reddit. Headset takes the songs that are shared in over 80 music subreddits, categorize them and plays them automatically. It's a great way to find new music and a pretty unique one as it is chosen by other humans like you, not by algorithms.

You can listen to all the music you want without having to do more than installing the app on your computer. In addition, you can create collections, playlists, scrobble to last.fm and bookmark your favorite with a single click.

Have you heard of Shuffler.fm or its ancestor Twones? They were a startup from a few years back that did something similar, but with a slightly different approach. It basically was a music player built on top of music blogs. So there might be hundreds or even thousands of bloggers around the world collecting music and posting it on their blog. What Twones/Shuffler.fm did was aggregate it all and present it in a unified player.

I've always thought it was a great idea. They eventually pivoted to become more of an online magazine about music called Pause: http://pause.fm – Worth a look if you!

Anyway. Love these kind of apps. Headset seems very well executed. Congrats!

@marckohlbrugge Didn't hear about shuffler but it does sound like a good way to curate music! I wonder what caused them to pivot. I'm a big fan of https://www.indieshuffle.com they have a similar approach and really good music too.

Appreciate your feedback and re-tweets! Thanks a lot!
