Beholder

Automatically convert photos of an object into a 3D model

Beholder is a web app for building 3D models of objects using photos. You'll need 20 or more high quality photos, taken in a ring around your object of interest, and then Beholder lets you convert this into a textured 3D model that you can download.

Beholder is useful if you want a 3D model of something but you don't have the budget to hire a 3D artist to build it for you. It works on objects of any size, so use a phone or DSLR to take photos of smaller objects or a drone to take photos of buildings.

Hi all, Beholder aims to make it easy for people without 3D modelling skills to create 3D models from photos. We're looking for beta testers to help try out the app so if you're interested please click sign-up on our website and click through to the mailing list signup form. We should hopefully be in a position to start the beta test in a couple of weeks.
Cheers
Alan
This sounds very cool. Will be excited to try it out. What have you seen as the primary use case / best instances for modeling?
@FAfied32 Hey Anthony, thanks for the comment. The models produced can be used for a wide variety of applications such as 3D printing, games, AR etc. We'll be looking during the beta test for what people are most interested in using the models for and where possible trying to improve the experience for those applications. In terms of the type of objects that work best with Beholder I would say solid objects with a mostly matte surface, so the tech doesn't work very well on translucent or highly reflective (cars, shiny metal) objects for example.

Some care is also needed when taking photos of an object to make sure that you have good coverage of the object you want to reconstruct and that all the photos are in focus. Part of the preparation for the beta test will be to make sure that we have a good tutorial and sample photoset to help people get up and running. :)
