Crop Selector

Crop Selector is a crop selection and scheduling software designed for life support in space and applied for sustainable farming on Earth. Leveraging NASA's and ESA's approach to fulfilling astronauts’ nutritional needs in controlled environments in space, we have developed a genetic algorithm that selects and organizes crops to grow in BioPod, our self-sustaining aeroponics greenhouse. Crop Selector optimizes plant selection and cultivation schedules to satisfy the daily intake of macronutrients while taking into account palatability, food diversity, surface, and water use. Combined with BioPod, it results in an optimized food production system that grows exactly what is needed daily.
